Held annually on the last Bank Holiday in May, the Cooper's Hill Cheese-Rolling Festival is perhaps the best known of Britain's most eccentric festivals, attracting 15,000 spectators in 2010. The committee and organisers spend two weeks before the event clearing the hill, and the cheese are hand-made 7-8lb Double Gloucesters. The races start at 12pm prompt, and are run / tumbled down over a 200 yard course. The course record being an impressive 15 seconds from top to bottom. First prize is, well, the cheese of course! Second receives a crisp £10 note and third £5. There have been many, many injuries but no deaths as yet...
