My daughter Michelle worked at Cosgrove Hall in Chorlton and painted the backgrounds on the original animated story. She did the bit where the helicopter drops presents.

Cinderella and Little Red Riding Hood were my first two Little Golden Books in the early 1950's - The big, bad wolf scared the life out of me due to my Dad's fierce interpretation, growling fiercely...and I'd hide under the covers...only to emerge again with pleas of "read it again, Daddy - PLEASE!" (I went on to enjoy horror movies as you can well imagine! lol)

After Janet and John, (Look Mother! Rover can see the aeroplane!) I progressed to The Beacon Readers. Lots of stories in these, including Little Chck Chick.
My all time favourite was my Grandmother's copy of Swiss Family Robinson, presented to her in 1889 as a prize for "Punctual and Regular attendance" at her school. I must have read that book dozens of times.

The sad loss of Maurice Sendak got me remembering all the wonderful children's books I read to my kids, and even read myself a long time ago!
