I remember the earlier ones as well as this. By using 5 cards to a hand you could play tactics as well as the standard turn a card at the time. Card 11 could swap places with some one or move 11 spaces forward, 7 could be split between two pieces, 4 you always moved backwards, 10 move 10 forward or one backwards. A more sophisticated ludo.
Later editions had circular playing cards and this made it more difficult to play the 5 card hand.
