Tiered wedding cakes 1947

The official wedding cake to be cut by H.R.H. Princess Elizabeth at her wedding reception was on view back in 1947 at the Harlesden works of Messrs. McVitie & Price.
The cake was of four tiers and stood nine feet high. It weighed about 500-lb! The tiers were separated by silver pillars and the whole cake stood on a silver base some forty inches across.
