I also remember the time when the Edinburgh Monarchs Speedway Team used Meadowbank as their Home track. I met Jack Young once, World Champion, when he was being " put-up ", given a bed for the night, by Jimmy Cox before one of the race meetings. Jimmy introduced me to him. Jimmy Cox, a Monarchs rider, was a great guy. He was one of the last " leg trailer riders " which meant that his free leg/foot was pointed towards the back wheel. Most riders had, by the 1960's, started to ride with their free leg/foot pointed towards the front wheel. He also used to ride with a Buckskin jacket with the fringes flaping as he sped round the track. I also remember, and thank, Jimmy Cox for giving me a run " round--the-block " one summer evening in his 1963 white Ford Thunderbird car with the hood down. It was fantastic !!! God Bless him. Gone but not forgotten.
