The Prime minister, John Major, and his wife, Norma, eat fish and chips for lunch at 'Squires' restaurant in Braunton, North Devon this afternoon (Monday). Photo by Adam Butler/PA. See PA story ELECTION Major.
I remember eating haddock and chips at Squires when on holiday at nearby Croyde Bay, and reading a framed letter on the wall, the letter was on No 10 Downing Street notepaper, it read:
"Thank you very much for the delicious fish and chips Norma and I enjoyed earlier this week. Fish and chips is one of my favourite meals and yours was the best I have ever eaten. Your kind hospitality and generous portions will be remembered for a long time. - John Major, Prime Minister
