Edinburgh, Princes Street, West End 1897

This was the fashionable place to shop and eat out; there were several highly recommended restaurants, including Ferguson & Forrester, Littlejohns and the Royal British. Leading confectioners were Mackies and Ritchies, where shortbread was a speciality.

Mackies chocolate eclairs were the best - I never found anything as nice.
