Dad's Army 1968

We'll bet that you can sing every word to this theme tune. Altogether now, "Who do you think you are kidding Mr Hitler..."

I throughly enjoyed the series which undoubtingly was based on fact.I guess that's what life was like in Britain in W.W.2

One of the BBC's best. It' still pops up from time to time on TV, a radio adaptation is running on Radio 4 Extra, and the DVDs still sell well. The series demonstrates why this country puled through 'the war'. the innocent, irrational belief that if only we stood up to Hitler, we would somehow beat him (as we did, with a little help from our friends). What I didn't realise was that the theme tune was written especially for the show. I had always assumed it was a wartime original.

I bought a DVD set of the early series and just like so many British TV comedies they stand up to replaying over and over without becoming boring. This series was a true classic the cast were perfectly chosen. The best of the best were with private Walker in my opinion.

It is still, to this day my favourite sitcom. Timeless in both setting snd script. Most brilliantly cast by the equally most brilliant David Croft (Writer/Producer/Director). I had the honour to meet David Croft long after his retirement in a village near our home in Suffolk. After a change of careers that took me out of the TV industry I moved to Suffolk, un beknown to me right to the heart of the location area for the exterior shooting of Dad's Army in and around Thetford. The best ever!
