Currently training on Southport beach, Alan Wright, 32 of Belmont Close, Burscough, preparing to defend his title as World Welly Throwing Champion in Jamaica. In the classic style of an Olympic discus thrower, Alan whirled around in a carefully marked circle to hurl a size 12 rubber Wellington boot more than 50 yards across the sand. Alan, a chemicals salesman, won his title at Florida's Daytona Beach in 1978.
