Birmingham City Town Hall looking from New Street.
Remembered more than a year ago
We used to have our speech day here too (Harrison Barrow Girls' Grammar School).
25th Jul 2012
I saw many Bands and artists including Shirley Bassey on two occasions in the town hall, the cheap seats were behind the stage. The street lights suspended between the buildings look like they were the old Gas lights converted to Electric, I remember an old tower truck with the wood tower on the back that was used to service the street lights around the city, it certainly would not be acceptable today.

I sang on stage with Cliff Richard when he came to a Boy's Brigade Service. I was one of three young ladies wearing the new Lady Officers uniform. We looked like the Thunderbirds!!
31st Mar 2013
We also had our school Speech Days there. Saltley Grammer School (1962-67)
I won a BBC Children's Hour writing competition in 1949 and went to the Town Hall to be presented with my prize by Uncle Mac. I was very disappointed when it was announced that he was unwell, and Lionel Gamblin, a much less well-known children's programme broadcaster, was replacing him!Handsworth GS did not have its speech days there!John Duffield
