Bob a Job week - Scouts 1951

Getting down to work on the Boy Scouts Bob a Job week is Bruce Morris, seen here giving Sheila Glibbery a shoe shine.

I was a member of the 175th Bishopbriggs Scout troop & used to really enjoy this. We would be asked to do anything - washing dishes or a car, taking a dog for a walk (slightly risky at times!), brushing leaves from an entrance pathway or even cutting a lawn! It taught us to do something well with no reward in mind, as the "bob" went to the Scouts! I remember you had to keep a record of each job you'd done, again, good preparation for later life. Sadly, another casualty of the "PC" brigade.
