Baywatch Stars Launch 1997

Baywatch stars David Hasselhoff, Donna D'Errico (front) and Traci Bingham, in London to launch the steamy lifeguard drama's new series, which returns to Saturday nights on ITV on Saturday, April 19th 1997. *28/02/2000 - Mr Hasselhoff's character dies in an explosion in the last episode of this season's Baywatch Hawaii, and the star is not happy about it. He said "I thought it was a joke when I read the script. I was upset. I was planning to leave, but not like that!" Hasselhoff is leaving the syndicated series after 10 years playing lifeguard Captain Mitch Buchannon. 8/2/2001: Baywatch is to be axed by TV bosses, two years after it made the switch to Hawaii from Los Angeles it was announced. Show publicist Kristin McEntee said the last episode of the show which features lifeguards, beaches and tanned bodies will be shown in the US on May 21st 2001. Baywatch Hawaii has been plagued by poor ratings since it left Los Angeles, where it was filmed for nine years. Its long-time star, David Hasselhoff, made only occasional appearances after the move.
